MYTH – You can target specific areas of your body to reduce fat only from those areas. This phenomenon is known as Spot Reduction.
When you exercise, you lose fat throughout your body at different rates, depending primarily on your genetic makeup. However, it is not possible to lose fat in a specific area as Spot Reduction may suggest. You may have seen people who only perform hundreds of crunches everyday in an attempt to burn their belly fat. Spot reduction does not work and you have to target every muscle of your body irrespective if what your goal is. So, whether you want to reduce your belly fat, get rid of your love handles or have a toned lower body, focus on overall muscle development. Otherwise, you are bound to be in a tough spot!
