Shweta Sakharkar

Shweta Sakharkar is a Mumbai based bikini competitor and a sponsored athlete with ESN (Evolution Sports Nutrition). We caught up with her to talk about her achievements and some tips and advice for the women of India!

  1. Bodybuilding requires a lot of dedication and hard work. How do you keep yourself motivated?
    My mother has been my biggest motivation. She’s 45 years old and still looks like a teenager and trains like a beast. Her fitness level is what keeps me inspired. It motivates me to push myself even on days I don’t feel like training.
  2. Being a male dominated profession, do you think it’s more difficult for a woman to make a mark in this space?Shweta Sakharkar FitNut
    Things have changed. Bodybuilding is no longer a male dominated profession and women are doing equally well. I have always been involved in male dominated sports like football and volleyball. My mother has also been a fitness trainer for over a decade now. So my family’s support and my sports background have made the journey less challenging for me.
  3. What’s the best piece of training advice you ever got?
    Train yourself, not your ego. I have seen so many people trying to lift heavy instead of focusing on their form of lifting. They are training their ego at that point and not their muscles. Leave your ego outside the gym.
  4. What would you say is your greatest achievement yet as far as your personal fitness is concerned?

  5. Three Fitness tips for women.
    First and foremost eat right and do not starve yourself to lose weight. It’s the worst thing you can do to your body.
    Focus on both cardio and strength training. Lifting weights will not make you bulky; it will make you curvy and you will feel confident about yourself.
    Lastly, excuses wont burn calories. Take out an hour everyday for yourself. If you cant go to the gym, do a few bodyweight exercises and other functional routines at home.
  6. What are your fitness goals for 2016?
    There are many but the most important one is to have the best bikini fitness body!
