Hey, is your blood sugar level high? Cause I think you’re really sweet. Well apart from such cheesy pick up lines, high blood sugar brings with it a host of other health problems as well. Here’s a list of spices, herbs and foods that can help you control you blood sugar so you don’t have to deal with such problems and problem makers!

  1. Cinnamon
    Though there have been conflicting results, experts believe cinnamon can help control blood sugar levels. Cinnamon makes cells more sensitive to insulin; hence they use the sugar in your blood to generate energy. This stabilizes the sugar level in the blood. The best part, it tastes great and can be sprinkled over just about anything.
  1. Fenugreek (Methi) seeds
    Fenugreek seeds have been used for years for their medicinal properties. According to studies, these little wonders also help control sugar level in blood by reducing insulin resistance.
    They can also help increase insulin production by the pancreas, which helps lower the sugar level in blood.
  1. Chia seeds
    Chia seeds help control sugar level by slowing down the rate at which glucose is released into the blood. They can be used in various ways and you can add them to water, milk or sprinkle them on your juice, smoothies and salads.
  1. Neem
    Neem has been widely used in Ayurveda to treat diabetes. By naturally controlling blood sugar level, Neem reduces the dependence on insulin. It also improves blood circulation throughout the body hence reducing complications associated with high sugar levels in your blood.
  1. Bitter melon (Karela)
    For many this may not be the most appetizing option. But if you’re inching towards diabetes, good taste should be the last thing on your mind. Bitter melon helps control glucose level in the blood by enabling cells to use blood glucose for energy. Further, some studies also suggest that bitter melon can potentially reverse insulin resistance, which plays a big role in controlling blood sugar level.
  1. Blueberries
    This one is our favourite. They’re tasty and one of the healthiest fruits out there. Blueberries contain anti-oxidants that stabilize blood sugar level by helping the body get rid of excess blood sugar.
