Follow these tips to blast through your weight loss plateau and continue your journey to a healthier lifestyle:

  1. Increase your calorie intake
    Consuming too few calories on a daily basis over a prolonged period can be counterproductive to your weight loss goal. This pushes your body into survival mode, as a result it starts storing calories rather than burning them. If that is the case, then temporarily increase your calorie intake and burn rate. This is likely to put your metabolism back into high gear. 
  1. Change your workouts
    The human body is surprisingly adaptive and that could be one reason you have stopped seeing results. Experiment with different exercises to surprise your body, so that your workout is no longer just a routine.

    • Consider adding an extra mile to your run/ jog.
    • Incorporate HIIT in your workouts in addition to the conventional cardiovascular exercises.
    • If you have not started strength training already then it is time to make that a regular feature in your workouts.

Whatever your workout routine might be, changing things up or increasing the intensity is likely to give your metabolism the much needed boost.

  1. Maximize your “NEAT”
    Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis is the energy you spend doing everything apart from your workouts. Making small tweaks to your lifestyle can help you get the ball rolling. For instance, take the stairs instead of the lift or escalator, walk down to nearby areas to get food or groceries instead of ordering in and walk over to a colleague’s desk to talk instead of calling them on the phone.
  1. Take a few days off
    Your body needs proper rest and recovery in order to make progress. If you have been training too hard then it might be a good idea to take a week off and get some rest. Also, make sure you are getting enough sleep to help speed up the recovery process.

Don’t let a few days of stalled progress break your will. Stay focused and committed and the results will follow. Treat the weight loss plateau as a stepping stone in your journey to conquer the mountain.
